University of Rhode Island SSDP is an SSDP chapter located in Kingston, RI. It was officially founded in 2002 by Tom Angell, who convinced the Hemp Organization for Prohibition Elimination (URI HOPE) to co-affiliate with SSDP.

[edit] Origins

URI HOPE was founded in 1998, as an organization that opposed the prohibition of industrial hemp, hosting a yearly URI Hempfest.

In 2002, the group became URI SSDP. Under Tom Angell's leadership, the group successfully recruited URI President Robert Carothers to speak out publicly against the HEA Aid Elimination Penalty.

Micah Daigle became co-president (with Angell) during his sophomore year (academic year 03-04).
